Sculpted Paintings by Joni Hamari
I have been experimenting with different techniques to create a built up "sculpted surface", I wanted a rich, textured background to apply the layers of translucent Oil colors. Initially I wanted to literally sculpt the painting with my hands, but I was not able to achieve the smooth texture I desired...I now sculpt the background of the painting with a pallet knife and artists tools, creating a true relief sculpture on the canvas before I begin the painting process. Each sculpted background is then painted in Oils to accent the sculpture, and lend color and depth to the textures.
