Are you familiar with the rarity of the Giant Sequoia wood? There are three species commonly known as Redwood or Sequoia: Giant Sequoia, Coastal Redwood and Dawn Redwood. Sequoiadendron giganteum (Giant Sequoia) is the sole species in the genus Sequoiadendron. There are only a few thousand of these trees remaining in a swath of land extending 250 miles long and 50 miles across. The trees are of course currently illegal to harvest, and in 1991 it became illegal to harvest even fallen trees. It is impossible to tell the age of the tree from just the branch, but it is likely the tree was around 3,000 years old that these slabs came from! The branch itself has around 800 years of growth rings! The Giant Sequoia are the largest trees on earth (by volume), and the Coastal Redwoods are the tallest trees on earth...The rarity lies not only in the scarcity of the wood, but in the size of these slabs as well. Shown to the left is the "Grizzly Giant" in the Mariposa grove, towering over the people standing below...You can see the diameter of the branches is tremendous, 5 or 6 feet across. Redwood Conference or Dining Table "Once in a Lifetime..." By Joni Hamari Solid "Tiger" & curly Redwood, measuring 7 feet by 7 feet across...randomly inlaid across the surface is a stunning natural stone and pure Gold inlay!!! The top of this table is a 2.5 inch thick Old Growth Redwood slab the grain is beautiful, solid burled grain, Curly and Wavy Burl. It measures 7 feet by 7 feet...and will seat up to 12. The base is stunning as well, four matching slabs of burl, capped by "tiger burl" corners (cut from the same tree as the top). The stone is a natural veined stone, commonly referred to as "White Buffalo Turquoise", which in turn is inlaid with pure Gold. The stone is randomly inlaid across the surface and over the edges. About Redwood or Sequoia Costal Redwood and Giant Sequoia are two different Species Coast or Coastal Redwood or California Redwood (one of three species of trees known as Redwoods) Sequoia sempervirens is a genus in the cypress family Cupressaceae containing the single living species.
Sequoiadendron giganteum (Giant Sequoia) is the sole species in the genus Sequoiadendron.
The name Sequoia is also used as a general term for the subfamily Sequoioideae in which this genus is classified together with Sequoiadendron (Giant Sequoia) and Metasequoia (Dawn Redwood). Tree Trivia:
